Senior Architect in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, United States

This role provides leadership in the design, technical development, documentation and execution of complex program driven facilities.  Reporting to the Architecture Discipline Director and working with Philadelphia based design principals, engineering and discipline leadership, and business development leaders, this role shall contribute to growth, profitability and sustainable development of the Jacobs Philadelphia practice.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works closely with design principals, engineering leaders, peer level architects and project managers to design, develop, document, observe and administer the construction of complex, program driven facilities for clients according to their needs, desires and financial resources.
  • Leads architecture design teams on large, complex projects; provides technical design and code interpretation support on other projects.
  • Responsible for design integrity and technical quality of deliverable documents; provides leadership for and contributes to Jacobs quality control procedures.
  • Prepares project work plans, budgets, and schedules.
    Works and communicates effectively with clients, owners representatives, building users, consultants, manufacturers representatives, contractors, CMs, code and life safety officials.
  • Writes and reviews technical specifications; reviews submittals; responds to RFIs, conducts punch-list inspections and on-site observation of work to monitor compliance.
  • Monitors progress, scope and changes of design work, facilitates adjustments in work flow to maintain performance and meet financial targets.
  • Accomplishes results through own work and effective supervision of others.
  • Mentors subordinates, provides informal technical training, professional development guidance and fosters a positive team working environment.

  • Minimum 18 years professional practice experience with a focus on large, programmatically and technically complex projects, including minimum 10 years in project leadership roles.
  • Professional degree in Architecture -Masters preferred- or foreign equivalent.
  • Architecture licensure with active registration in the U.S. or foreign equivalent.  LEED accreditation desirable.
  • Experience in leading the design process and work flow of projects produced and coordinated in digital environments utilizing BIM, CAD, clash detection, and other performance and visualization software.
  • Proficient in BIM, CAD, word processing, spreadsheet, and clash detection applications, such as Revit, AutoCad, ARCOM Masterspec, and Navisworks.  Thorough knowledge of building, life safety, and accessibility codes as well as industry standards.
  • Experience in a range of building types, including science and research, mission critical, corporate commercial, institutional and in the design of energy efficient, high-performance and sustainable facilities.
  • Proficient in managing sustainability studies and workflows that are integrated into architectural project schedules.
  • Excellent communication, networking, social and interpersonal skills; ability to make presentations internally and externally; commitment to transdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Able to effectively balance multiple priorities; possesses strong analytical, problem solving skills; highly responsible and motivated to achieve total project success.
  • Adheres to highest of professional performance and ethical standards; embraces candor, transparency and accountability.
