Commercial Manager in Baku, Baki, Azerbaijan

Wood is currently recruiting for a Commercial Manager to operate in a high-profile, deadline-driven, demanding environment. The role will be based in Baku working a 6/2 rotation or on a residential basis if preferred.

Job Objective:

Provide commercial/contracts leadership and direction to Delivery, Project Controls, Supply Chain and Engineering teams to assure the commercial success of the contract and mitigate the risk to Wood

Responsibilities:

  • Key contributor to the overall contract execution strategy with specific commercial and contractual focus
  • Lead the effort and negotiate annual rate reviews, changes to Scope of work or KPIs through to agreed Contract Amendment
  • Embed the Financial Management Framework across the contract
  • Provide commercial analysis on P&L reporting - seek margin enhancement opportunities
  • Manage the interface between finance and delivery teams, communicate project risk and assess  financial provisions
  • Focus on cash management and DSO improvement
  • Understand and advise on commercial impact of resourcing strategy for contract delivery, develop national talent including commercial resources.
  • Drive performance to deliver against contract KPI's
  • Maintain contract risk registers and ensure mitigation is planned and robust
  • Seek continuous improvement opportunities with client to remove non-value add and simplify administration across all functions
  • Ensure compliance with Wood corporate commercial processes and procedures
  • Prepare contract correspondence as required between Wood and client


Skills / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent in relevant technical or business discipline preferred, and/or suitable industry experience

Minimum Experience:

  • In addition to the minimum qualification level expected, the individual should possess at least 10 years supervisory experience preferably in EPC / EPCm oil and gas or similar which would demonstrate exposure to key contracting concepts, principles, remuneration models and commercial risk management. Previous international experience whilst not essential would be beneficial.

Job-Specific Skills:

  • Excellent understanding of commercial management principles, techniques, compensation structure and contracts Ts and Cs
  • Previous experience in a managerial or supervisory position within Contracts,  Commercial, Project Controls, Procurement or Finance required
  • Project experience should cover EPC/EPCm projects in the oil and gas industry, preferably in both an onshore and offshore Brownfield environment
  • Role model in commercial discipline
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the other business services disciplines within the area of responsibility including Project Control, Finance and Supply Chain
  • Considerable knowledge and experience of Commercial administration processes and procedures.
