Industrial Construction Summer Internship, Electrical Engineering Focus

Wood Process and Energy is currently looking for summer interns to join our growing industrial construction teams for summer 2019.  The ideal candidates should be interested in the field construction side of the business and working toward a degree in electrical engineering. The Summer Internship will require travel to our job site locations where you will work directly with our field teams in a hands on industrial construction environment. This position is a temporary internship with a duration of approximately twelve weeks at a job site location within the United States. Candidates must have reliable transportation for purposes of mobilization and demobilization to the job site location. Work hours are generally 48 per week, work on weekends may be required. This temporary position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with construction observations, reporting and materials testing and monitoring
  •  Assist in the preparation of quantity take-offs, cost estimates, engineering drawings, maps, and other related graphics as required to support project
  •  Assist in facilitating change orders
  •  Assist with revisions to project documents
  •  Monitor field variations by shadowing Project Electrical Superintendents
  •  Reporting of daily activities of a construction crew
  •  Perform additional assignments per supervisors direction
  •  Additional responsibilities will be defined in the relevant process procedure


Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in good standing within an accredited program
  •  Ability to read and understand construction engineering plans and drawings, including sheet references and layering
  •  Ability to maintain confidentiality
  •  Ability to pay close attention to detail and check the quality of own work
  •  Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  •  Ability to use sound judgment
  •  Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details
  •  Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

Special Requirement Skill

  • Candidate must be willing to travel to a job site location for a 12-week temporary assignment
  •  Candidate must have reliable transportation

 
Experience / Education

Candidates for Internship positions should be a current undergraduate or graduate student in good standing working towards a degree in Engineering or Construction Management within an accredited program

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, plus demonstrated ability to work across varied disciplines
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Work Environment

 

The work environment is an industrial construction setting. There is a significant amount of loud noise, moving vehicles and could be considered a moderate risk. Personal protective equipment is required at all time. Work is performed both in an office setting and outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently inspect the project and weather may be inclement and excessively hot or cold.
