Government Reporting Analyst in United States

Responsibilities

Prepare and submit mandated reports to several external governmental agencies including, but not limited to: Energy Information Administration, Department of Energy, United States Census Bureau, California Energy Commission.

Perform analytics to assist in responding to any questions or concerns that may arise from these agencies.

Trend BPs data to ensure accuracy and identify outliers

The role is a first line contact with the government agencies which requires coordinating feedback from various departments/BUs within BP and formulating the response

Communicate directly through written or verbal mediums with government agencies

Contact internal customers as needed to gather information required to complete submissions.

Prepare and submit internal MI reports with analysis

Cultivate a strong team environment that shares best practice between co-workers, across Finance, outsourced provider and with business counterparts.

Coordinate/communicate with a wide range of departments including Refining & Marketing Finance Team, Terminal Operations Team, GBS co-workers, various Government Agencies, etc.

Lead or participate in special project activity which may include travel to BP terminal or Refinery locations.

Identify process work flow gaps and process improvements, including measurement of delivery effectiveness through KPI (key performance indicators) tracking.

Maintain accurate documentation and procedural checklists for all required reports

Gather data and documents to comply with investigations and subpoenas

May need to travel to other business units to train on, and bring into GBS, new reporting responsibilities

  • Obtaining timely information from internal BP sources can sometimes be a challenge. This will require the establishment of good rapport with business personnel to obtain the required information on time.

Responsible for supporting the business with statutory government reporting. Working with relevant teams across the business to effectively coordinate a range of finance reporting and assisting in the delivery of outstanding business results.

Timeliness and accuracy eliminate BPs exposure to hefty fines for non-compliance and tardiness


Essential Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field.

5 years or more experience with strong analytical, control and financial accounting skills.

Good understanding of how Finance processes and systems operate including key internal interfaces and with third party providers.

Strong impact, interpersonal, networking and communication skills

Ability to work independently to be able to manage multiple/conflicting priorities with a strong track record of delivery

Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, advanced/superior Microsoft Excel skills.

SAP experience with MM and FI modules (i.e. drill down and reporting).

Desirable Criteria
CPA certification

Regulatory reporting knowledge or experience.

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Visual Basic a plus.
