Job Role Summary

Rotating Equipment and Equipment Health Monitoring Specialist- Billings, MT

Advise Machinery supervisor on preventative maintenance and the repair of all rotating equipment classes in the assigned business team. Lead the Equipment Health Monitoring program and direct resources to support data collection for Equipment Health Monitoring.

KEY DELIVERABLES

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to Machinists and Machinery First Line Supervisor for high quality mechanical repairs, improvements and provide oversight of the repair.
  • Guide and ensure adherence to the Equipment Health Monitoring site program. Provide direction to Machinery First Line Supervisor for purposes of overseeing the Equipment Health Monitoring technician.
  • Provide feedback on equipment failures

Job Role Responsibilities

Leadership

  • The Machinery specialist is expected to be a site leader for safety and reliability, both in the office and in the field.
  • Be present in the unit for scheduled shutdowns and startups to assist in monitoring rotating equipment through their transient phases to help ensure the unit is safely parked and or started up. Also help reduce premature equipment failures.
  • Continually monitor work on rotating equipment and ensure the repairs are being executed according to standards, specifications and procedures.

Technical

  • The Machinery Specialist is the Technical Department first contact for machinery related questions. This individual will be responsible for troubleshooting machinery related issues, recommending small machinery related repairs, performing initial/first pass at Root Cause Failure Analysis, and working with the machinery planner in developing a repair scope when necessary.
  • Drive / support improvement recommendations including Management of Change.
  • Support Reliability leadership team initiatives and provide feedback on status
  • Understand the operating envelopes of rotating equipment
  • Identify and drive sustainable fixes data driven approach
  • Develop and continuously improve Preventative Maintenance program for rotating equipment

Coach / Mentor

  • Provide input regarding the repair and operation of rotating equipment and drive appropriate actions with guidance to the Mechanical First Line Supervisor.
  • Assist / coach unit process technicians in troubleshooting, operating, and maintaining rotating equipment. Provide quarterly training to operators and participate in all Machinery Care walks.
  • Assist Machinery Engineer with rotating equipment troubleshooting, improvements and upgrades.
  • Assist maintenance technicians with repair of rotating equipment.

Safety

  • Responsible for assigned area Rotating equipment
  • Responsible for ensuring employee adherence to safety standards. Play key role in implementation of Loss Prevention Safety program. Support the development of Job Loss Analysis with specific focus on reliability losses. Conduct Loss prevention Observations to drive improvement in machinery care. Steward Contractor Safety Performance

Environmental

  • Responsible for completing applicable environmental related Mechanical work by scheduled compliance date and recording required documentation. Responsible for execution of work per environmental requirements.

Reliability

  • Ensure Quality repairs and completion of scheduled Preventative Maintenance.

Employee Development

  • Mentor Machinists / operators and site leadership on machinery care.

Controls

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Control procedures relating to job scope.

Job Requirements

  • Technical Machinery Specialist background with extensive field/hands-on experience.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant Machinist / Millwright hands-on experience; experience in the oil refining industry preferred.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Relevant work experience in the following:

> Rotating Equipment repair including the following types of equipment:

  • centrifugal compressors,
  • reciprocating compressors,
  • centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps,
  • steam turbines,
  • gear boxes,
  • electric motors,
  • mechanical seal,

> operation,

> reliability,

> monitoring,

> optimization,

> failure analysis and troubleshooting preferred

Equipment Health Monitoring and vibration analysis experience.

Risk Assessment and Risk-based Work Selection experience
