Surveyor in Basra, Al-Basrah, Iraq

Wood is currently recruiting for a Surveyor with extensive experience in the oil and gas petrochemical industry. Candidate must be able to work on daily basis; we are only considering applications from local Iraqi nationals preferably residing in Iraq, Basra.

  • Responsible for ensuring Contractor(s) performs survey work in accordance with SITE and contract requirements
  • Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites
  • Record the results of daily surveys, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land
  • Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain
  • Prepare relevant data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys.
  • Plan and conduct ground surveys designed to establish baselines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements.
  • Maintain coordination with SITE engineering, client, and all relevant stakeholders
  • Maintain regular calibration testing of equipment and adjust surveying instruments in order to maintain their accuracy.
  • Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries in survey areas, using theodolites (Total Station), transits, levels, satellite-based global positioning systems (GPS) and Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS)
  • Use computer-aided design (CAD) and other IT software to interpret data and present information
  • Work with Construction and QA to assist Contractor(s) to meet all survey contract deliverables
  • Provide hands on involvement with Contractor(s) to ensure smooth survey execution of the project(s).
  • Maintain accurate daily records and reports of both survey and time-writing for approved sites visited
  • Administratively reports daily to Construction SITE Lead and assigned to support work fronts as needed
  • Participate in Weekly Team meetings
  • Maintain current safety passport and complete appropriate refresher training in WMS and SMS. Actively promote and contribute to safety programs, inspections and O&I /Green card observations.
  • Liaise with Construction SITE Lead
  • Liaise with Construction and Quality Supervisor(s)
  • Liaise with Contractor(s) SITE Lead representatives at site
  • Close interaction with Contractors Construction/QA SITE representatives to check/witness Survey execution.


Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree or acceptable technical equivalent.
  • (e.g. good English oral & written communication, customer liaison, team player, etc).
  • Good communication skills to ensure correct information is being sought and received from all other departments.
  • Self-motivated and driven with the ability to provide suggestions and solutions.
  • Accepts responsibilities and accountability for decision making. Good co-ordination skills and ability to work on own initiative.
  • Interface management ability to build and maintain effective Contractor, Client and Stakeholder relationships.
  • Good command of English written and verbal language
  • Ability to understand the contract requirements and implement these within Project Teams and Contractor(s) organizations.
  • Experience in managing Survey activities of projects.
