Bechtel is designing, constructing and commissioning the worlds largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.

The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOEs most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.

The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and AECOM. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.  

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm (day shift).  The selected applicant needs to be willing and able to work night shift (5:30 pm to 4:00 am) and weekends as needed.  

Role Overview:

Provide support as required to the construction team reporting directly to the Project Lead Surveyor. Perform assigned activities relating to construction engineering, layout of foundation locations, equipment locations, structural steel placement, subcontracts, and engineering liaison with the design functional group. Use design drawings, model and specifications to determine associated plant and equipment locations. Works with field engineering to support field verification of materials as appropriate and needed. Provides technical support as related to survey to Field Engineering and Superintendents in a wide range of situation and configurations, including coordination and scheduling of field crews.

Multi-Disciplined Field Engineering responsibilities with earthwork, excavation, concrete, structural steel, mechanical, piping installation, etc., and module assembly experience.

Works under time constraints and must be adaptable to changing conditions and priorities and may be required to work extended work schedules or night shift and be willing to travel.

The Survey Engineers duties include, but not limited to, the following:

Provide Construction Survey support to Lead Survey Engineer

Direct field crew(s) in daily survey operations

Operate and perform Layout using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)

Perform surveys on a 2 or 3 person direct-hire survey crew

Utilize survey instruments in conjunction with Bechtel survey procedures

Responsible for the accurate layout of construction work, recordation of field data according to job    specifications and appropriate methods of performing survey activities

Contribute to the implementation of the project safety and project environmental programs

Contribute to the implementation of project quality control program

Developing and maintaining survey data

Participate in the administration of the survey work request program

Provide Civil project completion documentation including 'As-Built' records

Perform verifications of subcontract survey control points and work (when applicable)

Assist excavation crews using GPS and a Digital Terrain Model (DTM)

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelors degree from an accredited university in surveying or construction related discipline and 4 year of construction or surveying related work experience; or in lieu of a degree, 7 years of construction or surveying related work experience.

Minimum 5 years Supervisory experience

This will be a field position, must be able to do physical work.

Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education. Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.

Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.

Demonstrated experience with Trimble Robotic Total Stations, Digital Levels and GNSS survey systems.

Advanced knowledge of data downloading.

Coordinate Geometry computations experience.

Knowledge of Bechtels Zero Accidents safety program.

Knowledge of Bechtel quality standards.

Knowledge of construction survey principles.

Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities.

Working knowledge of Bechtel construction procedures.

Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner.

Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment, able to formulate a working relationship with other departments and contractors.

Excellent problem-solving ability.

Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.

Possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Terramodel, Trimble Business Center software, Survey CAD software, and Starnet.

Experience with 3D Laser Scanning including Dimensional Control and processing and modeling scan data with Cyclone software.

Familiarity with digital data work processes.

Prior experience on WTP or other DOE projects.

General awareness of environmental laws.
